Engineering Project Manager

Position Overview:

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading and executing capital projects across the US, with a specific focus on the Pennsauken, NJ manufacturing site. This role will have full responsibility for projects as assigned including major plant expansions, new construction builds, Innovation Centers, and new major production equipment. Current projects in Pennsauken include expanding our liquid sourdough department and increasing capacity on our Wastewater Treatment system. Nationally, projects include adding a new powder blending line in Rancho Dominguez, CA and supporting new packaging project development in our chocolate factory in Kenosha, WI. You will drive the continuous improvement mindset, apply the asset design and project management best practices, manage a portfolio of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects and develop a regional strategy to secure the implementation in time and in full of the retained projects.  Your regional portfolio can reach over $10M/year of CAPEX and includes several dozen initiatives in various stages of progress.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead major capital projects from start to finish with accountability to cost, schedule, and quality
  • Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management team
  • Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors
  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates
  • Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests
  • Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
  • Controls project costs by approving expenditures in SAP; administering contractor contracts
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions
  • Builds cross functional teams to complete project tasks; coach and mentor new project leaders
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Leads handoff from project team to operations team once acceptance testing is complete
  • Manage overall US cap
  • Develop project justifications for new projects and ideas
  • Oversee completion of various small projects across the US
  • Co-develop plant, facility, and departmental long-range capital plans
  • Ensure full execution of the capital budget
  • Establish best practice in the US, in-line with Group guidelines
  • Lead monthly capital meetings to review project progress
  • Develop tools and training materials for new project leads across departments
  • Collaborate with Puratos Group Engineering and Purchasing for best practices and project guidance

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree required, Masters or PMP a plus
  • 6-10 years relevant experience in engineering and management of industrial capex projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automation, robotization or digitalization of industrial applications
  • An appetite and passion for engineering and new technologies is an asset
  • Familiar with production process engineering (P&ID, TDS, URS, …) and safety by design
  • Knowledge of utilities processing (electricity, compressed air, steam, WWT, process water, …)
  • Computer science fundamentals; self-confident with new IT systems, data management and analytics

  • Accept regional travelling (up to 30% of the time)
