Senior SHEQ Officer

(Nairobi, Kenya)

 

Your Mission

  • To drive the development and the continuous improvement of the Quality, health and safety standards, processes and procedures.
  • To support the sustainable and profitable growth of Puratos Kenya, offering total peace of mind to our customers worldwide.

What you will do

Quality Assurance and HSE Compliance:

  • Carry out routine internal audits and spot checks to ensure compliance with Puratos quality assurance framework and external regulatory standards.
  • Drive the implementation of GMP, HACCP, Quality certification, system audits, Puratos Policies & Procedures.
  • Coach and train Operations Teams on Quality Assurance Systems and HSE standards.
  • In coordination with the Operations Director, monitor QC & HSE Opex & Capex budgets and KPIs.
  • Routine follow-up on quality-related Institutional, statutory, and legal requirements with relevant bodies (ISO, KEBS, DOSHS, NEMA, County Governments, Halal).
  • Implementation and follow-up on quality management systems (ISO, GFSI).
  • Follow up on vendor and customer complaints as per Company Policy and HACCP guidelines.
  • Oversee the creation of Quality Assurance related management reports and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Manage handover of new projects from R&D Department to Operations and the development of existing ones.
  • Lead initiatives to achieve Zero Accidents at the workplace through compliance with the 10 Golden Rules to Zero Accidents.
  • Ensure the development and effective implementation of appropriate Health, Safety, and Environment policies and procedures as per Group and Local guidelines.
  • Support and perform risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and recommend preventative solutions.
  • Interface professionally with government agencies in all areas of environment, health, and safety.

 

Responsibilities Management:

  • Drive the development and continuous improvement of Quality Standards, Processes, and Procedures across all departments.
  • Introduce new Products, Raw Materials, and Packaging Materials in collaboration with Business Units, R&D, Engineering, and Operations, ensuring strict principles of product handover and management of change.
  • Ensure all conditions are met to produce Right First Time and in a consistent and sustainable way, delivering the expected quality.
  • Contribute to the optimization of operational procedures by actively participating in site monthly meetings, quality meetings, task forces, and other cross-functional meetings.
  • Manage Customer Complaints, Food Safety, and Food Quality incidents and crises with other stakeholders within the organization and lead communication with customers.
  • Ensure QA & QC personnel and equipment comply with all relevant Puratos safety standards and procedures regarding behavioral and equipment safety.

 

Food Safety:

  • Ensure full compliance of the department with all applicable legal regulations and international food safety standards.
  • Ensure timely HACCP analysis on each new product, validation, and timely review of the HACCP plan.
  • Follow up on food safety issues or non-conformities.

 

Quality Information Service Center:

  • Manage the creation of technical data sheets in SAP and updates on SharePoint.
  • Manage customer QA questionnaires and specific customer questionnaires.
  • Prepare customer-specific information documents on QA-related topics.
  • Manage halal and kosher certifications. (If applicable)
  • Manage declaration and labeling of BU products.
  • Implement legal changes and prepare data for export files.

 

Reporting/Budgets - Investments/Projects:

  • Manage OPEX and CAPEX for the QA/QC department.
  • Track KPIs (timely release RM/FG, Internal NC, Complaint Index, External certifications BRC, etc.).
  • Report results regularly.
  • Track corrective and preventive actions.
  • Calculate the yearly budget and follow up on the monthly budget.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Implement the Continuous Improvement Program in the department and act as a change manager.
     

What we expect from you

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or any other related field.
  • Working experience under ISO/GFSI Certification, HSE Guidelines
  • At least 5 years’ working experience in a busy Manufacturing FMCG environment; working experience in Milling, Bakery or Pastry industry an added advantage.
  • Good command of ERP applications and MS Office applications
  • Language; fluent spoken and written in English; French is an added advantage.
