Research Manager Food Lipids

Our Group Research and Services Lab is looking for a Research Manager Food Lipids.
Location: Groot-Bijgaarden, hybrid

 

Key Accountabilities

The mission of this function is to develop and implement an upstream research portfolio related to the functionality of lipids in bakery, patisserie and chocolate products, in close collaboration with the research teams in the Business Units and global R&D teams.

 

You keep in mind our engagements on health & wellbeing, and sustainability: you explore novel sources & functionalities of fats, oils and emulsions, to increase nutritional value, taste and texture experience.

 

Overtime you will be growing into the role with key tasks:

 

  • You will become an expert on lipids (oils and fats) and become the SPOC for the business:
    • You build in depth knowledge on functionality of lipids in bakery / patisserie / chocolate applications, and strategies to improve their functionality in interaction with other ingredients, to improve the nutritional profile and to minimize the environmental impact.
    • You identify novel sources of functional lipids and investigate their potential for innovation in bakery, patisserie, chocolate applications.
    • You identify differentiating technologies in oils, fats, emulsification, analytics on fats, and application in our core fields.
    • You proactively translate findings into project proposals in line with health and wellbeing and sustainability strategy.   
    • As an expert on lipids, you educate on lipid functionality, sustainability topics, regulatory updates and innovations.

 

  • You do scientific research in cross-functional projects:
    • You build a network, identify partners and take a responsible role in networks concerning oils, fats, lipids (suppliers, customers, research institutes, startups, …)
    • You follow-up and lead external (collaborative) projects in relation to functionality of lipids and apply for grants.
    • You present in and participate to external seminars and congresses.

 

  • You closely collaborate with the regulatory team on aspects related to oils and fats.

 

  • You align with purchase to link the sourcing strategy of oils and fats to scientific insights & sustainability engagements.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • You have an academic background related to food science or biology with a strong interest in lipids.
  • You have 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent due to a master thesis or PhD study in the field of lipids.
  • You are hands-on - eager and curious to try out new technologies in lab and pilot scale.
  • You are creative and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • You have impactful communication skills before an audience and are able to translate complicated messages
  • You like to work in matrix organization and are able to create impact in a non-hierarchical setting
  • Good knowledge of English is a must + Dutch or French.
