Contract Yard Worker
LOCATION: Chilliwack, BC
WAGE: $25.50/hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a contract position with no guaranteed hours to cover off a medical leave. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, The Yard Worker will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized yard and dock area by managing waste disposal and recycling, unloading trailers and supplying production materials, organizing bins and pallets, and supporting shipping and receiving operations as required. Duties also include yard and equipment cleaning, managing waste pickups, opening and cleaning the sugar latch/door with related QA documentation, operating the yard gate, and performing other assigned tasks to support efficient site operations.
Key tasks
- Clean dock area
- Dump and clean the garbage, organic waste, soft plastic and the hard metal/metal drums
- Transfer drum organic waste into bins and dispose of it into organics bins
- Unload / Unload apple/brain fruit trailers, load empty bins
- Keep the whole yard organized and clean, free of loose items and debris
- Supply empty bins and drums to production
- Separate returned pallets and keep them organized
- Manage the bins including requesting pickup when full
- Opening and cleaning the Sugar Latch/ Door and provide paperwork to QA
- Opening and closing the Yard Gate
- Pressure washer/ cleaning the yard and parking lot as needed
- Back up to shipping / receiving as needed
- Perform other tasks as assigned

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of grade 12
- Must be fluent in English both verbal and written
- Strong ability and aptitude for handling machinery and equipment as some mechanical skills are required
- Organizational skills and ability to make decisions and problem-solve
- Good judgement
- Able to handle physical work requirements and repetitive work both indoors and outdoors
- Hardworking, flexible, results-oriented team player
- Good oral and written English communication skills
- Forklift certification
- Proven record of safety.
- Reliability – an impeccable attendance record is crucial to the position.
