Sanitation Supervisor

(Richmond, BC)

 

Your Mission

The primary role of the Sanitation Supervisor, reporting to the Director of Operations, is to ensure that plant operations meet mandatory sanitation requirements for machinery, equipment, and facilities. Under general direction, the Sanitation Supervisor is involved in sanitation and cleaning duties, supervising personnel, planning, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems. This role ensures that responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the company’s policies, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements, applicable regulations, and customers’ demands. The Sanitation Supervisor also follows all continuous improvement processes and the management operating structure.

 

Mandate

  • Ensure compliance with all local, national, and corporate environmental, health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Comply with all local and national food safety and legal requirements.
  • Perform all job responsibilities under the strictest consideration of health and safety, food quality and production parameters.

 

What you will do

  • Ensures and facilitates the effective sanitation and cleanliness of all machinery, tools, equipment and general areas within the production facility, according to the methods of sanitation and cleaning procedure described in the HACCP plan and applicable food safety requirements
  • Ensures all sanitation and cleaning related documents are completed according to company, HACCP and GFSI standards
  • Maintains up-to-date inventory levels of sanitation/cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Removes waste materials and follows recycling & garbage disposal protocols
  • Trains sanitation worker(s) on all duties related to health & safety and sanitation compliance
  • Facilitates open communication between operations, quality and other departments as required
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP)
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities and leads implementation
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of sanitation and cleaning products
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on MSDS and WHMIS; assists OHS representatives with related training and education for all staff
  • Leads by example in demonstrating compliance with all established company food safety and work safety procedures
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures in maintaining a safe work environment for self and others
  • Promotes a continuous learning environment and sharing of best practices, methods and ideas.
  • Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, from time to time, without advanced notice. 
  • Champions a culture of high performance through employee engagement and continuous improvement orientation in all actions and approaches.

 

What we expect from you

Skills, Competencies & Others

  • Great English writing and speaking skills to effectively communicate with team members and external parties
  • 1-3 years of experience in policy administration and legislative compliance
  • Experience in safety and environmental controls or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in an accredited Occupational Health and Safety certification program
  • CRSP designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, hazard recognition, assessment, and control
  • Knowledge of Return To Work and modified work programs
  • Experience working with local authorities such as WorkSafeBC and/or municipalities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
  • Proficiency with numbers and data, able to connect loss time with business revenue loss and understand the financial impact of safety incidents
  • Strong administrative skills, including preparing reports, filing WCB claims, and maintaining training records, with a keen eye for detail and the patience for administrative tasks
