Director- Research & Development

Your Mission

Lead & supervise the product development team by continuous improvement to transform technologies into innovative & value-added solutions in accordance to market or customer’s requirements and eventually implement new products in local production and launch in the market. Also to lead and supervise the technical team for product innovation and product presentation creativity according to channel and customer preference. To ensure all technical advisors are well equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to present themselves alongside the commercial team and to support all sales activities successfully.

Collaborating with TQM to ensure implementation of related activities in accordance with the objective of Puratos Quality Standard & Policy as well as all associated certification, including HACCP, FSSC22000 & Halal. Working together with Procurement for the right raw material sourcing in the most cost-effective way.

What you will do

• To develop new products, concepts, techniques and tailor-made products upon market & customers’ request with collaboration with marketing & sales team.
• Provide necessary technical information on raw materials, products, technologies and production processes to the TQM and production team.
• Provide necessary technical information & support to customers.
• Provide support sales & marketing team on product knowledge & relevant technical skills to ensure that they are competent in the Bakery & Patisserie field.
• Support Puratos innovation activities organized internally & at customers’ place.
• Ensure ingredients used in product development are in compliance with the food regulations in Malaysia & Singapore; as well as in accordance with the objective of Puratos Quality Standard & Policy, including HACCP, FSSC22000 & Halal requirements.
• Ensure implementation of labelling procedures & product labelling is complying to the food regulations in Malaysia & Singapore, with consultation of local authorities. Conduct internal audit on product ingredient information and labelling procedures and report NC.
• Evaluate ingredients and products used in product development; ensure the production of new developed products is complying to the defined specifications and standards that have been established during the test and trial period of new products.
• Assist procurement team in sourcing new raw materials in new product development, conduct regular review on raw materials and ingredient testing when necessary, with objective to achieve structural saving.

What we expect from you

• Combines the competences of PRODUCTS KNOW-HOW and PROCESSES for typical bread/cake/cholcolate products. S/he can be specialist in a specific technology or product range because of earlier experiences, or has relevant experiences to acquire this information on the short term
• Is a food technologist /engineer (University degree in food science or related disciplines) with at least 5 years experience in Bakery/Cake/Food R&D position
• Is analytical, team- player with very good communication/commercial skills
• Has a strong knowledge of food ingredients and their applications in bakery/cake products, and has a passion for food
• Is business driven
• Is willing to travel and support sales within the country
• Is fluent on English
• Ideally, fluent on Chinese (added advantage) in order to serve the Chinese prospect within the country
• Is fully familiar with windows office (outlook, words, excel, power point)
• Is a proactive and creative person with an innovative mind
