Quality Assurance / Quality Control Specialist

(Chilliwack)

 

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor of Puratos Canada (Fraser Valley), the primary role of the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Specialist is to provide technical support for Quality Assurance (QA) activities, to provide technical assistance on the production floor, and the management of document control activities for all Quality and FSSC 22000 related functional groups within Puratos Foods Inc. As a key member of the QA department, participates in department projects, operational committees, and other organizational initiatives.

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:

 

  • Diploma in Food Science/Biotechnology or equivalent plus 2-5 years’ experience OR a BSc in a science related area of study and 2 years’ experience OR an acceptable combination of education/training/experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Regulatory Requirements, Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Experience with HACCP or ISO 9001:2008 and FSSC22000 an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to communicate one-on-one.
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, graphing and database programs.
  • Maintains an awareness of new and emerging methods of quality control in area of quality assurance in the biotechnology industry and related regulatory requirements and ongoing changes.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability and interpersonal skills that help to create a team environment and achieve department business goals.
  • Problem Solving
    • Identifies key or underlying issues in complex situations.  Recommends and selects the best alternative for solving the problem.
    • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires the evaluation of identifiable factors.  Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Finds ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs and focuses on improving quality, business/scientific processes, products and systems.
  • Identifies patterns and cause and effect relationships, and knows what information is missing.  Generates recommendations, ideas and solutions.
  • Knows and applies project management principles in defining project scope, work breakdown structure, scheduling, costing, budgeting, and applying the project cycle.
  • Recommends new and different ideas to deal with problems and opportunities.  Generates new ideas and goes beyond the status quo.
  • Typically works independently on routine tasks, requiring only minimal guidance, while receiving more detailed direction for new or unifamiliar assignments.”

Salary Range:  $50,000 - $60,000 per annum + bonus eligibility
