The Sanitation and Safety Coordinator coordinates and executes UHT facility safety, sanitation, and pest control activities while observing all Puratos GMP’s, SOP’s, and SQF standards.  This role is responsible for the overall safety, quality, and efficiency of their work center

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Report all food safety, quality, and safety issues immediately to the appropriate supervisor or management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate and understand control system.
  • Review and complete supply orders with vendor partners.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of site supplies and communicate any issues or discrepancies with representatives and supervisors.
  • Ensure adequate cleaning chemicals, proper functioning of dispensing equipment, and monitor chemical deliveries by communicating with the supply representative.
  • Ensure all floor scrubbers are functioning properly and schedule service as needed by communicating with the representative and technician.
  • Ensure waste streams are loaded safely and correctly, and coordinate with waste companies to maintain adequate service.
  • Ensure trash compactors are in proper working order and communicate with Waste Management when service is needed.
  • Ensure master cleaning schedule is being completed and signed off on by all sanitation techs.
  • Support and direct non-standard sanitation and cleaning activities.
  • Identify and create streamlining projects to improve cleaning practices when applicable.
  • Coordinate with pest control partners for safe and effective routine IPM treatments, and lead pest control and food safety cleaning efforts, including directing small teams as needed.
  • Escalate facility related concerns that could potentially impact IPM and SQF adherence.
  • Coordinating material inspection efforts.
  • Manage inventory and distribution of PPE. Monitor for proper utilization of PPE and tools by employees throughout facility to drive proactive approach to injury prevention.
  • Conduct risk assessments of work areas to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend appropriate safety measures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of work areas to identify potential hazards. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and track their completion. Plumbed and portable eyewash and safety shower stations (required weekly).
  • Ensure first aid kits are maintained (frequently).
  • Periodically audit forklift and pedestrian interactions, as well as the training of forklift and electric pallet jack operators.
  • Support Facilities Manager in conducting inspections of exit-route lighting (monthly).
  • Assist in coordinating emergency drills and training sessions. Ensure records of emergency drills and training are maintained.
  • As needed, prepare, and distribute safety bulletins, safety flashes, OPLs or similar document.
  • Monitor and maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous materials. Perform periodic inspections of hazardous materials storage, particularly flammable and combustible liquids (quarterly).
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance overall facility operations.
  • Assist in managing safety requirements for contractors working on-site. Coordinate site orientations and safety briefings for contractors.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all safety, sanitation, and pest control-related inquiries and issues.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of portable ladders utilized onsite. Perform and document annual safety inspections of equipment to ensure it is maintained in good working condition.

 

Requirements:

  • 3 years relevant experience; Sanitation lead experience in industrial setting strongly preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
  • Ability to use all production software applications; proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to operate and understand control system
  • Must be comfortable and capable of operating powered industrial trucks
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow system instructions and training materials.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations in various units of measurement.
  • Must pass skill assessments, including SQF, GMP, and SOP training.
  • Ability to work independently and regularly lift 55lbs (25kg)
