The Research & Development Technician supports and executes tasks related to business development, business maintenance, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct Standardized Performance / Baking Tests
- Fully understand analytical Standard Performance Tests, with a focus on the 5 rules: representative, comparative, sensitive, repetitive, and efficient.
- Manage a library of Standardized Performance tests/forms – understand and verify variation
- Perform tests in lab, on pilot installations, and provide assistance with plant trials and initial runs
- Make samples for demonstrations for internal/external purposes
- Samples include Puratos products and a range of baked goods
- Ensure analytical correctness
- Respect Quality Assurance criteria of samples (traceability, GMP)
- Handle / support specific projects in close collaboration with R&D
- Support R&D tasks during the product development / adaptation process
- Conduct analytical and application tests on competitive products
- Alternate / new Raw Material testing against control
- Ensure R&D documentation is accurate and up to date
- Support customers on various projects
- Lab management:
- Keep lab orderly and organized. Implement a 5S system
- Maintain fresh stock of frequently used ingredients. Order laboratory supplies as necessary
- Ensure that all equipment and tools are functioning properly
- Plant Support
- Support implementation of new products on the Puratos lines, and investigate quality issues
- Build expertise in specialty area:
- Continuously seeks opportunities to learn more about specific areas within bread and sweet goods
- Food Safety:
- Comply with our food safety procedures upon new raw material selection, product development or modification and sample preparation
- Report all food safety and quality issues to immediate Supervisor and / or head of Quality and take immediate action as appropriate within the team as defined by Quality procedures
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or Food Technology strongly preferred. Other science, culinary, and lab related degrees would be considered
- At least 2 years relevant work experience required
- Previous work experience in a food product development environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Passionate about food and the baking industry. Hands on baking experience is a plus
- English fluency required, Spanish is a plus
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Travel Requirement: up to 10%
