Production Supervisor - 1st Shift

The Production Supervisor maintains a leadership position to motivate and develop the production staff through regular training and daily reinforcement of policies and procedures on the production floor. This role will manage, lead, and direct the manufacturing processes and staff while maintaining safety and quality standards, key performance indicators and facility conditions. The Production Supervisor is a key member of the Operations team and is responsible for providing direction and leadership for production.

 

Available Shifts: 6:30am - 3pm OR 230pm - 11pm

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain and “audit ready” safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on use of all control points, equipment, and resources
  • Maintain compliance with established policies and procedures; develop timely corrective actions for all non-compliant situations
  • Monitor employee performance; provide feedback, coaching, counseling, development plans; maintain records of seniority, accumulated points, paid time off, training, etc. for all union employees in the production department
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points/equipment; monitoring personnel/resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points
  • Promote communication and coordination between departments (quality, R&D, warehouse, maintenance, and production)
  • Establish a strong safety culture; actively participate in safety committee, safety investigations; safety reports; weekly safety toolbox talks, provide safety training; initiate preventive measures
  • Report daily KPI’s; create/revise work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) by analyzing operating practices, forms of control and implementing change management
  • Monitor/enhance team member productivity through constructive feedback, coaching, and targeted team development
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations into downtime events and quality issues
  • Oversight of inventory throughout assigned area; plan layout of inventory/storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight and related factors of items stored; ensure materials are in stock and available for production
  • Maintain FEFO (First Expire, First Out) and inventory control using ERP system
  • Manage the ordering process for both stock and non-stock items to maintain seamless production flow
  • Maintain working relationship with union; follow terms of the collective bargaining agreement
  • Effectively manage budgeted cost lines, including labor, supplies, and raw materials, utilizing ERP systems and related software for accurate financial tracking and reporting
  • Resolve quality holds, mechanical breakdowns and safety accidents by initiating and leading Root Cause Analysis and using other problem-solving tools
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including problem-solving, 5S implementation, visual management, and LEAN projects; drives culture of continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership coverage during planned/unplanned absences, ensuring continuity of operations; maintain ability to operate all powered equipment within the UHT facility.
  • Take initiative in crisis management and provide guidance to the team during unexpected events

 

Prior Knowledge/Experience

  • At least 4 years of related work experience in a production/manufacturing setting
  • High School Diploma/ GED required, Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Experience with UHT (Ultra High Temperature) treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of ERP systems: SAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.)
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work occasional weekends
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Fluent English speaking and writing required
  • Knowledge of GMP and Food Manufacturing preferred
  • Ability to effectively delegate/work collaboratively with other functional departments
  • Passion and ability to engage people at all levels of an organization
  • Knowledge of lean six sigma preferred
  • Spanish is a plus
