R&D Bakery Director

(Mississauga, Canada)

Your Mission

Reporting to Vice President, R&D, you will be Responsible for profitable and strategic business growth of the Bakery product category through the development of local innovative solutions, building strong customer relationships and utilizing inspiring people leadership skills. This is a strategic role that is viewed by our customers as an expert in the bakery field that can help build and support their business. This role is responsible for building, directing and executing the strategic vision for both the Bakery R&D team and the broader organization using the principles of Enterprise Leadership and the Puratos Values.

What you will do

Leadership, Team Development & Expertise

• Direct people management, organizational design, and talent development to support business objectives and foster a collaborative, high-performance team.
• Establish a long-term plan for team resources, conduct performance reviews, and ensure professional growth using Puratos tools and methods.
• Build expertise and networks in the bakery category, serve as a subject matter expert, and maintain knowledge sharing with internal and external partners.

Strategic Category & Innovation Leadership

• Shape and execute bakery category strategies by identifying opportunities and threats, implementing action plans, and tracking results for profitable growth.
• Lead development of new products, align R&D with business goals, and participate in innovation processes to ensure product relevance and customer satisfaction.
• Contribute to capital expenditure and cost reduction initiatives and maintain effective collaboration with HQ and cross-functional teams.

Business Development, Customer & Operations Support

• Drive business development by identifying new opportunities, supporting strategic projects, and maintaining a deep understanding of the local market and customer needs.
• Act as a technical expert for customers, deliver presentations, and provide on-site support for product development and troubleshooting.
• Support Operations and Quality Management, address quality issues, ensure seamless product handover, and comply with food safety and audit requirements.

Technical Administration, Laboratory & Safety

• Manage technical administration, documentation, and confidentiality of product data and formulations.
• Ensure optimal lab operations, equipment needs, and adherence to safety, 5S, and GMP policies.
• Comply with all food safety procedures and report issues as required.
• Undertake additional assignments as directed.

What we expect from you

• A Bachelor of Science is required, preferably with a Master of Science in food science.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in Research & Development (R&D), as well as at least 5 years in people management.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of French is considered an asset.
• Proficiency in standard Windows operating systems is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
• The role requires up to 30% mobility.
