POSITION OVERVIEW
Based at our Gauteng – Longmeadow site we are currently seeking a:
MATERIAL REQUIREMENT PLANNER – (Longmeadow Site, South Africa)
Reporting directly to the Planning Supervisor, the successful candidate for this key function will be responsible for:
ensuring the timely availability of materials required for production by analyzing demand, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with procurement, production, and suppliers. The role supports efficient production planning, minimizes shortages and excess inventory, and helps maintain optimal supply chain operations.
III. – KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Production Planning & Demand Analysis
- Develop and maintain material requirement plans based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand.
- Analyse demand trends and adjust plans to align with business needs.
- Run and manage MRP system outputs to generate purchase and production requirements.
- Identify and resolve material shortages and potential risks proactively.
2. Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock without overstocking or stockouts.
- Maintain safety stock levels and reorder points based on demand variability and lead times.
- Analyse slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct regular inventory reviews and support cycle counts and stock audits.
3. Supplier & Procurement Coordination
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely ordering of materials.
- Track purchase orders and ensure suppliers meet delivery timelines.
- Expedite or delay material deliveries based on production requirements and inventory levels.
- Communicate material status updates to internal stakeholders.
4. Production Support
- Work closely with production planning and operations teams to align material availability with production schedules.
- Adjust plans based on changes in production priorities or unexpected disruptions.
- Issuing job cards and work instructions to picking, batching and production
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by ensuring materials readiness.
5. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Generate reports on inventory, material shortages, and planning performance.
- Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inventory turnover, fill rates, and on-time delivery.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
6. Operations Administration Support
- Generate admin support including but not limited to submission of invoices, timesheets, filing and ad-hoc admin duties.
- Import documentation processing and submission.
- Tracking and reporting of shipping vessels to support supply chain visibility.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in supply chain optimization initiatives.
- Improve planning processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Implement best practices in material planning and inventory control.
IV. – PROFILE
- Matric (Grade 12) and post matric qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field.
- 2–5 years’ experience in material planning, supply chain, or inventory management.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Syspro), WMS, Qlik and Excel.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literacy: MS Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Written comprehension – the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Good communication skills - English is a prerequisite.
- Familiarity with supply chain planning tools and forecasting techniques.
