The Planning & Materials Manager, part of the facility leadership team, oversees capacity planning, materials management, and production scheduling. This role is crucial in fostering collaboration between engineering, production, purchasing, and quality assurance to ensure timely and complete product delivery that meets customer expectations.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Continuously optimize supply chain materials functions (demand planning, production planning, and scheduling) and manage delivery schedules, improving practices and implementing corrective actions for supply chain, materials, production planning, and warehousing issues
  • Ensure efficient work center loads, lead times, and material availability to meet customer requirements
  • Manage all ERP and MRP system parameters, to ensure efficient and effective planning results
  • Identify and implement changes to parameters to positively impact inventory, waste, and schedules
  • Review and suggest corrections of bill of material and routing errors, nomenclature errors, and other scheduling-related issues
  • Report monthly on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as defined by plant leadership.
  • Set goals, coach, and hold direct reports accountable to benchmark and implement best practices in supply chain, material, and production planning.
  • Estimate the amount of material, equipment, and labor required for production
  • Promptly address and resolve production issues to minimize delays in production
  • Recommend solutions to reduce production costs, improve processes, and product quality
  • Understand production facility resources, capacity, labor, quality standards, bottlenecks, challenges, and opportunities, with the expectation of developing demonstrated reliability in production results and planning accuracy
  • Develop weekly finite schedules for all production work centers; release production orders to production lines, ensure clear direction and confirmation of the plan
  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to address capacity limitations, risks, and integrate the facility production plan
  • Contribute to the development and continual improvement of the planning process, including the Rolling Master Production Schedule and Rolling Rough Cut Capacity Plan (RCCP)
  • Collaborate with purchasing to develop and maintain rolling Material Resource Planning (MRP) process
  • Support root cause analysis and investigation of customer misses related to production planning or execution; develop contingency plans to support customer needs with existing capabilities
  • Take a lead role in managing raw and packaging material inventories and ensuring raw material ordering occurs inefficient economic order quantity and timing
  • Serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) for sales and customer service, providing order status updates (production, shipment, and quality release) and addressing deviations in weekly forums, with alternative solutions
  • Oversee warehouse operation including receiving raw materials, shipping finished goods, and inventory management. Monitor and optimize warehouse capacity
  • Prioritize order shipments to Distribution Center (DC) and direct shipments to customers
  • Support new product introduction projects from prototype to production. Contribute knowledge of site capabilities and limitations, capacity, and efficiency opportunities
  • Support SKU portfolio evaluation with input on production complexities, costs, efficiencies, and raw material mapping. Assist with SKU de-listing, including system changes and resource identification

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a planning role
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in SAP
  • Strong advocate for lean manufacturing and lean culture
  • Preferred certifications: CSCP, CPIM
  • Production experience, preferably in FDA-regulated industries
  • Experience with supply chain systems for raw materials
  • Purchasing experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with Power BI and strong skills in Microsoft Office and Excel are advantageous
