Production Supervisor

Production Supervisor



Reporting to the Production Manager of Puratos Canada (Fraser Valley), the Production Supervisor ensures that the production plan is carried out on schedule, and consistent product quality and integrity is maintained during the manufacturing process. The Production Supervisor directly supervises and coordinates team leads and staff in a manner that creates engagement and productivity within the team and the facility. The secondary role of this position is to assist the Production Manager in identifying and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency within all aspects of production.


Key Accountabilities:


Production & Operations

Ensures production plan is carried out on schedule and consistent product quality/integrity is manufactured.

Ensures the effective and efficient implementation of the annual operational plan. Organizes, deploys, and measures day-to-day operations. Includes developing resource plans to support weekly production plan.

Works towards the attainment of production goals, objectives and standards without compromising food safety and quality.

Responds to routine operational issues including troubleshooting mechanical and technical issues.

Daily output reporting, review of batch records, audits accuracy of production records, follows up on irregularities.

Manages controllable elements of cost in order to attain or exceed budget targets.

Manages inventory of consumables ensuring costs are within budget.

Supports the Puratos safety and quality system by implementing and following procedures, enforcing GMP requirements, and participating in training.

Quality & Customer Focus

Assures product quality by practicing and enforcing HACCP, Food Safety, and ISO 22000 requirements in all aspects of plant production. As necessary, responds to audit requirements.

Develops SOPs for essential plant operations, train to SOPs, and ensure employee adherence to SOPs when performing job responsibilities and tasks.

Works collaboratively and maintains essential communications with other company departments to achieve plant operational results ie Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Research & Development, and Human Resources.

Implements the correction of product problems and process deficiencies.



Leadership & Human Resources

Develops and maintains a team-based work environment by providing leadership, direction, coaching, training, and clear and consistent communication.

Identifies, assembles and manages human resources required to complete operational processes.

Consults with Production Manager as required ie work scheduling, performance development program, employee relations.

Identifies training needs and provides training for plant staff. Shares personal knowledge and skills to develop competence of staff.

Ensures a respectful, safe, and healthy work environment for plant employees.

Applies company human resources policies and processes in an equitable and fair manner.

Assists in the development of positive cross functional/department relationships.

Complies with the Collective Agreement

Safety & Environment

Fosters safe work practices by enforcing standard safety procedures and as required develop and implement practical recommendations for safety practices.

Verifies that no unsafe practices develop in the plant, perform periodic inspections, and enforce all the policies and procedures related to employee safety in the work environment.

Continuous Improvement

Contributes to the maintenance of a Continuous Improvement environment.

Lead scorecard review meetings develop action plans, and positively influence outcome.

Skills, Education and Experience Requirements:


Demonstrates leadership ability and interpersonal skills that engage employees, create a team environment, drive employee productivity and competence, and achieve plant business goals.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to communicate one-on-one and in group settings.

Focus on quality including the development and adherence to Quality Policy and standard operating procedures that create plant efficiencies.

Maintains updated knowledge and strong technical expertise of HACCP and ISO 22000, regulations, and practices.

Flexible and controlled under crisis situations.

Knowledge & application of lean manufacturing principles

Problem solver with solid analytical skills and the ability to trouble shoot as the need arises. Involves staff in the decision-making process.

3-5 years of progressive production manufacturing experience (preferably in a food production plant) in a supervisory role.

Relevant degree/diploma with a concentration in Science, Business or Engineering (food, manufacturing or process) is considered an asset.

Experience working under a HACCP/ISO22000 system and maintaining this system.

Results orientation with a disposition towards continuous improvement.

Highly organized with excellent time management/priority setting skills.

Ability to make the right decisions.

Experience in an inclusive diverse work environment.

Working proficiency with MS Office applications, internet applications, and SAP.
