KEY MISSION

 

The Purchasing Category Manager will negotiate with suppliers and coordinate all strategic procurement activities of different raw materials or packaging categories for all production and distribution sites in Puratos USA.

These will include category strategy creation and implementation, supplier relationship management,  structural cost savings, working capital optimizations and market risk management.

Additionally, being located at our chocolate production site of Kenosha, the Purchasing Category Manager will be the lead purchasing person for the production site and for the cocoa category.

 

KEY TASKS

 

  • Manage different major purchasing categories (e.g. cocoa) for a total value of $ 25-75 Million for all Puratos production and distribution sites across the USA
  • Make strategic purchasing category analysis (spend, suppliers, users, needs, etc…) and leverage spend across the USA. The Puratos 7-step sourcing model serves as guideline
  • Actively look for improvements,  cost savings, working capital and supplier optimizations
  • Be the central person in the organization with the right market knowledge and use it as a tool to implement proper hedging of raw materials
  • Participate in the the improvement of the company EBITDA and shareholder value by cost and working capital optimizations, proper market knowledge, hedging strategies and pricing recommendations
  • Negotiate with all suppliers in order to obtain competitive offerings and the best quality and service levels
  • Manage the relationship with suppliers according the group SRM principles and continuously look for new vendors in order to ensure we have the best vendor base, using our supply-risk matrix
  • Assure that deliveries of raw materials are in accordance with production planning, in order to minimize working capital and prevent down time due to shortages. Ensure all administrative aspects of the purchasing function are complying with expectations and procedures
  • Pro-actively collaborate with quality, R&D, pricing, group purchasing and supply chain
  • Be one of the SAP key users for Purchasing

 

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor's or Master's in purchasing, business or supply chain
  • At least 5-10 years of relevant experience in Strategic Sourcing, Purchasing or Commodity Management, preferably in food ingredients (cocoa)
  • Proven strong negotiation experiences and skills
  • A deep understanding of the underlying supply-market economics and how they impact the business
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP programs
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Very analytical / accuracy with costs and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Takes self-initiative / Pro-active in looking for and proposing improvements
  • Strong ethics
  • Ability to work within fast moving cross-functional environment
