Product Manager, Chocolate

I.  OVERVIEW

II.  MISSION

The project manager will play a key role in supporting marketing acitivities for product categories and brands within the Chocolate Strategic Business Unit (SBU) at Puratos USA.

Among other projects, he/she will help to develop an innovation pipeline for the Chocolate portfolio, build insights and analytics-driven product strategies and execute annual business development plans.  Responsibilities will include commercializing new products, developing compelling marketing campaigns and driving business development through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

This role requires the ability to transform data and insights into actionable business initiatives, lead cross-functional teams, excellent strategic thinking capabilities and the ability to manage and drive alignment with multiple stakeholders. This role is located at Puratos headquarters in Pennsauken, NJ, just outside of Philadelphia.

 

 

III.  KEY TASKS

Drive business results and be accountable for hitting financial targets on the category:

  • Set annual operation plan, including sales targets for category in collaboration with Sales Channel leads and broader business development team
  • Track and report against category sales, mix and margin performance, including internal presentations to global and local stakeholders
  • Have a strong understanding of business drivers and sales pipeline; continuously develop and execute plans to close gaps, mitigate risks and grow business
  • Execute strategy across the marketing mix, including product design, pricing, promotions, and placement across a diverse range of channels and customers.
  • Track in-market performance of base and custom products to optimize support; define and measure KPIs and make recommendations on where to pivot approach where needed
  • Spearhead annual strategic planning process

 

Ownership of the product portfolio in close collaboration with R&D Managers and in line with category strategy:

  • Lead global teams of cross-functional partners from product conception through launch, driving seamless planning and execution across all steps of the process – product development, forecasting, operational feasibility, pricing, positioning and channel planning
  • Identify differentiated, profitable innovation spaces grounded in consumer and customer needs via diverse research sources (customer surveys/interviews, qualitative and quantitative consumer research, competitive benchmarking)
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities via sizing analysis, consumer validation, technical validation and strategic fit; develop clear positioning with customer/channel targets
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on renovation, cost reduction and SKU rationalization projects to continuously optimize portfolio profitability, efficiency and differentiation
  • Lead Portfolio Management Review (PMR) and Stage Gate meetings in collaboration with the cross-functional team; proactively update stakeholders on outcomes where needed  
  • Shift portfolio mix to support corporate commitments on Health, Wellbeing and Sustainability, and ensure balanced pipeline of strategic, international and local innovation
  • Lead cross functional team in evaluating custom product development requests and make recommendations based on strategic fit, profitability and right to win

 

Develop and oversee activation initiatives to deliver business growth

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Communications team to build differentiated brand and product positioning and generate demand in the marketplace across sales channels
  • Increase share of voice via thought leadership events, media campaigns and external product content, including press releases, social media posts, and website update
  • Collaborate with communications team to regularly refresh marketing materials and social/digital channel content
  • Set annual budget for category initiatives; track spend and adjust budget as needed
  • Build compelling communication tools and content to help drive category performance and internal/external engagement via product training, sampling and promotions
  • Oversee creative direction and execution of category projects via development of project charters and strategic briefs, and collaborate with agencies on design/branding projects

 

Support business development objectives through engagement with internal and external stakeholders:

  • Collaborate with Channel Leads to support Artisans, Distributor and Regional Retailers with trend/insight presentations, joint business planning, product and recipe recommendations and category management analysis
  • Lead cross-functional Business Development Teams (BDTs), develop category ambassadors and accelerate category priorities
  • Develop and execute product training as part of national training plan and in collaboration with R&D; effectively position features/benefits for different channels and stakeholders
  • Partner with Sales teams to ensure alignment of business development activities with category strategies and objectives and collaborate on communication and channel plans

 

Be an active member of the Marketing Team and a leader within Puratos:

  • Serve on project based-task force teams to advance corporate initiatives
  • Coordinate and support an array of internal marketing activities, such as seminars, teambuilding, events and presentations
  • Participate in the Puratos international marketing community; support global initiatives, and exchange ideas and best practices with marketing colleagues around the world

V.  PROFILE

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in marketing for an established CPG company, or relevant industry
  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • Superior strategic thinking, planning and project management skills
  • Overall business knowledge and holistic general management approach
  • Outstanding analytical skills; comfortable using quantitative and qualitative data to drive decision-making
  • Balances creativity with planning and discipline in fast moving, ambiguous environments; able to drive projects autonomously with excellent follow-through
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills
  • Collaborative, hands-on team player – able to develop strategy and execute the details
  • Proven ability to build influence, advocates and navigate a complex matrix environment with cross-functional teams
  • Travel: up to 20% of the time depending on business needs

 

Skills:

  • Superior Microsoft Office skill, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Languages:  English required, Spanish or French a plus.
