UK Technical Manager

Position Overview

Based at our site in Simonswood, on the border or Merseyside and Lancashire, Puratos are seeking a UK Technical Manager to join our UK team.


The Technical Manager (also known as QSHE Manager at Puratos) provides leadership on food safety, quality, health & safety and environmental standards, monitoring for compliance and driving for improvements and best practice across all of the Puratos sites in the UK.


The main focus and responsibilities of this role are around food safety and quality, however the successful candidate but be capable and confident to oversee our health, safety and environmental compliance and progress, leading colleagues in these disciplines and working with third parties where appropriate.


Occasional travel will be needed to other UK sites however the role is predominantly based in the North West. More details can be provided at interview stage.

The successful candidate will be responsible for and must have experience in the following:

  • Provide effective leadership and management of all Quality employees and the Quality function at a senior management level.
  • Be the 'Voice of Quality' for the UK influencing and negotiating with others when required.
  • Develop and manage the Quality budget
  • Oversee all food safety and regulatory compliance initiatives including HACCP, SQF, FSMA, Pest Control and Sanitation in line with the highest industry standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee all health, safety and environmental issues in line with local legislation working with all functional departments to ensure their compliance to local law.
  • Lead customer and third party audits & visits as appropriate including BRC, HSE etc.
  • Oversee the customer complaints and CAPA processes with the aim to continuously improve our products and our processes.
  • Oversee safety performance and reporting to continuously improve safety practice.    
  • Oversee the documentation control and traceability functions ensuring all documents and approval processes are in place.
  • Lead or sponsor initiatives to advance the QSHE agenda of Puratos
  • Ensure the development of Environmental Improvement Plans at each site
  • Drive Continuous Improvement Plans at each site for product quality, product safety, health & safety and the environment



The ideal candidate will

  • Have a degree level qualification in Food Science, Micro-Biology, Chemistry or similar
  • Have HACCP and Food Safety qualifications at Level 4
  • Have a NEBOSH Diploma (or willing to work towards)
  • Have significant experience in a Quality/Technical leadership role in the food industry
  • Have experience of SAP or other similar ERP systems
  • Have strong and effective written & verbal communication skills
  • Be a natural leader who can lead the wider business as well as direct reports
  • Be able to work collaboratively and build partnerships up and down the organization
  • Have strong analytical, organisational and time management skills
