Agronomy Expert

At its Group Research & Services Lab, Puratos is looking for an AGRONOMIST to lead key activities within an ambitious project at group level specifically focusing on cultivating wheat in strictly controlled conditions (mimicking those at the planet Mars) and to put in place innovative technologies using the cultivated wheat (Puratos Mission to Mars).

 

Main responsibilities

  • You are in charge of the indoor farming projects and related downstream activities at Puratos,
  • You manage and set-up collaborative research projects with universities, research institutes and start-ups in relation to the Mission to Mars program and primary production,
  • You run the cultivation plant (vertical farming, linked to conditions on Mars) for wheat and other crops and assure proper functioning of different experiments focusing on future technologies (plant growth, future bakery, …),
  • You act as the main contact between Puratos and the supplier of the indoor farming installation
  • Follow relevant trainings with the supplier
  • Lead experiments in the facilities according to defined procedures, ensure management and proper functioning of the technical installations,
  • You master technical skills in ‘wheat downstream technologies’:
  • Explore new options and technologies to be implemented under supervision of a manager,
  • Basic maintenance of the equipment present,
  • You report on performance and outcome of the experiments conducted,
  • You lead customer visits explaining the set-up on different cultures and technologies,
  • You follow and report writing on technical and scientific developments related to food production in extreme environments,
  • You generate, provide and publish relevant content about experiments on social networks,
  • You link to relevant business activities,
  • You create exposure through participation on external events.


Profile

  • We are looking for a Master in Biology, Agronomy, Bio-Engineering, with a profound interest for the bakery sector
  • Strong interest in new & disruptive technologies

  • Very good communication & language skills (at least in English and French)
