Bioprocess Engineer

The team in charge of developing the enzymes pipelines of Puratos Worldwide is based in Andenne (Namur), Belgium.

Reporting to the Research Manager Bioprocess, your role will be to lead the DSP activities for the recovery of proteins/enzymes post fermentation, such as: 
•    To perform and manage Downstream Processing (DSP) projects,
•    To upscale lab scale processes to industrial plant (analysis and downstream)
•    To lead process & technologies improvements initiatives in coordination with bioprocess manager 
•    To Support tech transfer into manufacturing or quality control. Lead technology transfer programs

 

Key Accountabilities


In this role, you will:
•    Explore and develop new DSP and formulation related technologies to ensure continuous improvement of processes, technologies and tools currently used at Puratos for enzyme/protein recovery post fermentation, including but not limited to MF, UF, chromatography, sterile filtration…. 
•    Design and lead the process development, characterization, scale-up (from bench top to pilot unit) and tech transfer to onsite manufacturing facilities (also located in Andenne)
•    Coach and mentor junior colleagues in the team and to provide expertise and guidance on downstream processing  
•    Apply bioengineering concepts for troubleshooting, process modeling and translation to experimental design and execution
•    Implement corrective actions and control plans to reduce variability and increase productivity related to Downstream performance
•    Interact and provide expertise to cross-functional department (QC, production, regulatory) 
•    Update and present results during internal & potentially external meetings 
•    Identify, suggest and perform analytical protocols to evaluate yields and recovery when required

 

Who are we looking for?


•    Bioengineer degree or equivalent throughout experiences
•    One to three years-experience in biotech would be an advantage
•    Hands-on experience in downstream processing, ideally in harvesting & purifying "sensitives" recombinant proteins (enzymes) 
•    Relevant experience in filtrations systems, TFF, depth filtration, dialysis and others separation methods 
•    Understanding  proteins – filtration membranes interactions is an advantage 
•    Experience in precipitation methods (salts, flocculation, etc..) for biomass removals
•    Able to carry out day to day techniques and procedures with limited supervision after directives from N+1, N+2
•    Experience in looking after and maintaining DSP equipment 
•    Able to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical issues. Strong analytical skills and problem solving 
•     knowledge of DSP process development (resins, membranes types and sizes screening, Design-of-Experiment (DoE) approach for process development)
