Environmental Health and Safety Manager

In support of operational excellence, the EHS Manager provides “hands on” environment, health, and safety leadership throughout the Pennsauken Campus.  As a key change agent, this role increases safety awareness and continuously improves corporate and individual site safety performance while also optimizing productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.

 

This role develops and delivers detailed and specialized safety training programs for new and existing employees to embed a behavior based safety culture including but not limited to lock out / tag out, hazard communication, emergency response programs, confined space entry, contractor control, fall protection, and evacuation procedures, WHMIS, Safe Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Job Safety Analysis.  Leads the local team’s sustainability initiatives including energy reduction, carbon neutral, water balance, and zero waste to landfill. Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads regular safety audits, ensures accident investigation & reporting procedures are in place and followed, and maintains robust record keeping and KPI reporting processes to effectively reduce risks.
  • Develops and delivers detailed and specialized safety training programs for new and existing employees to embed a behavior-based safety culture including but not limited to:
    • Lock out / tag out, hazard communication, emergency response programs,
    • Confined space entry, contractor control, fall protection, and evacuation procedures
    • WHMIS, Safe Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Job Safety Analysis
  • Lead the development of safety policies, practices and procedures throughout a network of company facilities in compliance with governmental regulations including Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, including, but not limited to OSHA, DEP, and EPA.
  • Lead the development of and provide guidance regarding facility specific issues relative to safety and sustainability programs and practices
  • Monitor new legislation as it relates to safety standards and practices and facilitate changes, as necessary.
  • Works collaboratively with Group Risk and Safety to implement group programs locally as required and supports the Group in creation of standards, best practices and activities to continuously improve the safety culture company wide.
  • Work with Group Environmental team to reach sustainability goals by implementing best practices and design for sustainability
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary group and be a team leader.
  • Identify, investigate, report and provide guidance relative to root causes, corrective actions (RCCA) for incidents, employee safety programs and regulatory compliance relative to safety.
  • Develop materials necessary for a comprehensive employee and supervisor safety training program, including training modules designed to meet or exceed the safety goals of the organization.
  • Develop and implement solutions for emergency preparedness plans for company sites.
  • Monitor and analyze safety trends and implement programs designed to continuously improve company results.
  • Monitor energy and water consumption and implement programs to reduce consumption of both
  • Implement standards of performance, benchmarks and key performance indicators that allow accurate measurement of performance and improvement.
  • Assist in the development of consistent pre-employment training and practices.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to operations management and safety committees to embed a behavior based safety culture.
  • Act as a contact for various state and local regulatory agencies regarding matters involving safety
  • Assist in the development and administration of company safety incentive programs, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs in positively changing employee safety behavior.
  • Assist in ensuring consistency in the policies and practices being employed at each company facility, where practical.
  • Other projects and responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Partner with Human Resources to provide support for worker's compensation claims including intake, investigation, reporting and return to work efforts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience in safety or a related discipline preferred driving cultural change in safety
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as other regulatory standards including, but not limited to NFPA, DOT, EPA, DEP
  • Knowledge of Food Processing Manufacturing environment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, change management and time management skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Federal regulations and various State laws regarding safety compliance.
  • Multiple locations experience a plus.
  • Proficient in personal computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
  • Knowledge and experience in training in a group environment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities across multiple projects / sites and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Works independently and has a strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills.
